TOUR DE TIMOR 09-Mountain Bike Challenge

23 - 28 AUGUST 2009

The Ride for Peace, Competition and Adventure.

Tour de Timor will bring "people together in a spirit of friendly competition, where ultimately everyone’s a winner”.

More than 300 riders from 15 countries have begun arriving in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, for what may prove to be the world’s most gruelling mountain bike challenge.

The inaugural 450-kilometre 5-day race will begin onMonday 24 August 2009. Riders face climbs of up to 2 kilometers in the world’s toughest and most beautiful terrain. Each evening at the end of that stage riders will be hosted by thousands of locals communities.

The race is a long-standing dream of President Ramos-Horta:
“The Tour de Timor will be a mixture of elite international athletes who will be competing fiercely for the top places of this event and many other riders who will be engaged in the experience with unforgettable memories that they will gain from meeting the people of Timor-Leste as they explore the beautiful scenery of this country.”

Beautiful Mountain views like this will be both cruel and kind on Day 2.

After completion of day 3 why not take a dip in the ocean at Betano to freshen up?

Not all the roads are paved and you will be crossing occasional river beds and washouts, so definitely a mountain bike required for this race.
