RIDE PASSPORT
All registered participants will be given a Ride Passport to carry along on the ride to collect 4 stickers from
4 different checkpoints along the entire route. To avoid congestion on Event Day, the Ride Passports and
goodie bags will be available for pre-collection by Klang Valley participants at OldTown Café, Bangunan
BU8, Lebuh Bandar Utama (next to McDonalds, Centrepoint), Bandar Utama from 3 to 6pm on Sat 15
Aug 2009. Please bring along your ID for verification.
Outstation Participants
Outstation participants can collect the passport on Event Day at Event Venue between 7.00 -7.30am.
Please come early to collect your Ride Passport and goodie bag to avoid congestion on Event Day. Counter
will close at 7:30am SHARP.
THE RIDE/STAGES
The ride is made up of 4 individual stages linked together into one giant loop of approximately 65km.
The stages are of unequal distance and different terrain.
Stage 1 is a fast and flowing pure cross-country route with very few technical sections. It could be
considered an easy ‘warm up’ even though it’s 21km!! 70% canopied and no big hills.
Riders are advised to pace themselves well for Stage 2 (19km) where you’ll put your ‘warmed up’ muscles
to good use. Again, very few technical sections, 1 river crossing and 70% canopied which you’ll need for
the big-ish hill climb. The rest of the stage has rolling hills.
Stage 3 is short at only 10km but that’s because there’s not many flat sections so it includes some short
hill climbs and fun technical descents.
Stage 4 is a best of both worlds! It has estate tracks, plantations, single tracks, flats, climbs and more
climbs and a grand finale descent back to the Finish. This is where the boys/girls will be separated from
the men/women! 16km of enjoyable suffering!
CHICKEN RUN
An escape route called the Chicken Run is available for riders to bail out at the end of Stage 1, 2 or 3. This
is advised for those that may not be able to complete the next stage as we’re not going to carry you out
from the trails.
This year the Chicken Run is simple as each Check Point is on (or close to) the main road (B34) so you just
need to ride the road back to the University of Nottingham.
Just follow the instruction of the Marshals and directional arrows with a picture of a chicken on
lampposts.
The Chicken Run distance is different from each Check Point:
CP1 back to Nottingham 10km on road
CP2 back to Nottingham 8km on road
CP3 back to Nottingham 5km on road
CP4 is at the gates of Nottingham.
Along the way back from CP1, 2 and 3 you will pass through Broga village if you need to buy food and
drinks.
CUTOFF TIMES
These are an essential component in this event. They are imposed so that we can safely make sure all
riders get back to the Finish before 4pm so they give riders enough time to complete the stages and ride
the Chicken Run (if necessary).
Entrance to the next stage will be stopped at certain times + riders advised to ride the Chicken Run back.
Stage 2 -11:30am
Stage 3 -12:30pm
Stage 4 -1:30pm
If they insist on carrying on, they do so at their own risk without official support and risk missing the lucky
draws.
Please take note that participants must have the fitness to ride at least 30km – that’s roughly the ride
distance if you chicken out after Stage 1.
RIDE MANAGEMENT
All key turnings inside the trails will be marked by directional arrows, red/white ‘Awas’ ribbons and/or
pink paper. There will not be paper dropped heavily all along the route. 65km of paper is a lot of litter!
Expect it to be there, but sparsely.
As this is NOT a race, please don’t expect high visibility signage of all turnings. It is down to the rider to
be vigilant!
Please slow down at junctions and watch out for these signs. Marshals will be stationed only at critical
points to help guide riders. There will also be official Sweepers who will move into the trails after the cutoff times for each stage. If you are unsure of the turnings and can’t find the signage, go back to the last
seen trail marker and wait for the Sweepers.
Trail Etiquette
Firstly, the route crosses land that does not belong to PCC!! Any other trail user has right of way. Please
ride with caution.
To fellow riders: You can expect trail congestion during the initial parts of the ride, especially on the
narrow single tracks. Stronger riders are advised to come to the front during flag off.
If you should stop during a climb, do quickly move to the side of the trail and allow other riders to pass.
This will help reduce trail congestion. Do give prior warning when passing a slower rider and only where
the trail is wide enough to pass.
Littering – Don’t do it.
CHECKPOINTS/REFILLS
There are 4 checkpoints, one at the end of each stage. The checkpoints will be clearly marked and
manned by Marshals. Riders must present their Passport at each checkpoint to collect the relevant
sticker.
CP 1 and 3 double up as water refilling points for all registered riders. There will also be a refreshment
point at the start of Stage 3. However riders are strongly advised to carry 3-litre water packs and food.
Bananas will be served at CP1 and CP3 and bananas and watermelons will be served at the refreshment
point at the start of Stage 3 when you most need it.
The cafeteria at the university will be open on Event Day from 12 noon onwards and it has the usual stalls
and drinks found in food courts. So for breakfast on Event Day, you need to make your own arrangement
before arriving at Nottingham, as there are no shops in the vicinity.
LUCKY DRAWS
There will be two draws – a General Draw and a Main Draw. To qualify for the General Draw, riders need
only to collect the first sticker from Checkpoint 1. The General Draw comprising smaller prizes donated by
the co-sponsors shall be conducted at 4.00pm followed by the Main Draw after that. Riders who complete
at least 3 stages (3 stickers) will also qualify for the Main Draw which shall comprise big-ticket items
contributed by sponsors and PCC.
SAFETY & FIRST AID
All riders are advised to ride safely and not to take unnecessary risk, especially at the more technical
sections. Two St John’s ambulances with first-aiders will be on standby at CP 1 and 3. Emergency contact
numbers are printed on the back of the Ride Passport. All participants are advised to carry their personal
first aid kit and mobile phone and to render assistance to fellow riders in case of emergency.
CHECK OUT
Upon returning from the ride, all riders are required to check out by presenting their Passport to the Sign
Out Desk in order to qualify for the lucky draws. The lower section of the Passport with the lucky draw
number will be snipped off.
