CBP GROUPS RIDE OF FAME : INTRODUCTION

Definitions of Global Warming

- An increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere (especially a sustained increase that causes climatic changes).

- An increase in the earth's atmospheric and oceanic temperatures widely predicted to occur due to an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution.

- The progressive gradual rise of the earth's surface temperature thought to be caused by the greenhouse effect and responsible for changes in global climate patterns. An increase in the near surface temperature of the Earth.

- The changes in the surface air temperature, referred to as the global temperature, brought about by the enhanced greenhouse effect, which is induced by emissions of greenhouse gases into the air.

- The term given to the major consequence of the greenhouse effect. Scientists have long predicted and recently measured notable increases in the world's temperature.
- An increase in the average worldwide temperature primarily caused by fossil fuel burning and an increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

- A process that raises the air temperature in the lower atmosphere due to heat trapped by greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, CFCs and ozone.

- A gradual warming of the earth's surface temperature reportedly caused by the emission of gases that trap the sun's heat in the earth's atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

- The warming of the atmosphere, or more properly the increase over time in average annual global temperature. Reasons probably include increased greenhouse gas content, orbit fluctuations increasing insolation and a decrease in global dimming.

- The concern that a build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere (beyond those levels required to sustain temperatures to support life on the planet) will result in catastrophic changes to the earth’s climate patterns.

- A popular term used to describe the increase in average global temperatures due to the greenhouse effect.

- An overall increase in world temperatures which may be caused by additional heat being trapped by greenhouse gases.

- Refers to the gradual changes in global weather patterns observed by researchers that suggest mean temperatures are rising planetwide.

- A rise in the Earth’s temperature, often used with respect to the observed increase since the early 20th century.

- The theory that the world's average temperature is increasing due to the burning of fossil fuels and other forms of energy resulting in higher
